BioI'm a children's writer! YAY ME! How fun is it to finally say THAT? My first novel, a middle-grader entitled THE LEGEND OF ZOEY (Delacorte), debuted on July 11, 2006, and I'm enjoying seeing one of my lifelong dreams come to fruition.
Besides historical middle-grade novels, I'm working on a couple of young adult manuscripts and some nonfiction, and I've even toyed with a couple of picture book manuscripts, although they are SO hard to write! For adults, I'm working on writing for the contemporary category romance market. As a freelance writer, I write monthly for BUSINESS TENNESSEE magazine, and some other pubs and organizations as well.
I am available for school visits, workshops, conferences and the like. I enjoy teaching and speaking. See my Speaker's Page on my Web site.
I am active in my online critique group of six years, The Storyboard, and a local crit group, too. I spent my formative years as an Army BRAT traveling around and living in Okinawa before I started school. My father was in and out of Vietnam for a goodish part of that time. He was killed in Vietnam in 1968. Since then, I've lived a number of places, all good.
I am MOST happily married, and I have three children who provide a lot of grist for my writing mill. I enjoy my family and friends, and my life with books—both writing and reading them!
I avoided blogging for a long time, knowing I would enjoy it more than I should (and I do!), but here I am! I'm a good "friend," so friend me! XO Candie
